“City skyline after a rain, when the reflected lights of the shop windows and trams. The streets of the day time, the city is covered with sunshine, the shining shop windows are both romantic and dramatic. A simple story conveys the state of the landscape at the moment. The play of colors is unusually beautiful and gorgeous, looks perfectly modern. It's so nice to sit on a tram slowly driving through the lit streets and to watch the life of the city. Now, after the tram turn around the corner - what will be there? A new meeting? A new adventure? A new inspiration? This painting is heavy textured, made with acrylic paints, using brushes and palette knife on canvas, expressionistic style, but still maintaining the vivid and accurate image of the city. Colors are atmospheric and bright. It rises up your mood and calms your mind. Through my art I want to share the good energy and joy of life with others.” Stella Carena

“Memories can appear in time...this is a place to remember and hope. Capturing the beautiful summer cityscape of Moulin Rouge. Very picturesque work, bright, expressive paint strokes convey the atmosphere of the famous and beautiful city in the day time. When one thinks of the Moulin Rouge Paris, the name "Toulouse - Lautrec" and the "Can-Can" first come to mind. However, the cabaret has a unique and exciting history that might be evident in the paintings, yet is mostly to be discovered. Painted with brushes and palette knife on canvas. Through my art I want to share the good energy and joy of life with others.” Stella Carena

Contemporary Art

Original

“The oil palette is from school use back in 1998, whilst the raw plywood frame I built recently. It's a relic of a lifelong passion for art housed in a frame built from my work as a tradesman. Art for me is empirical - created through personal life experience.” tectonihks

“The copper pieces are material samples from back when I worked in architecture around 2005. Used as a means of specifying cladding for building projects, I felt the copper panels had an intrinsic beauty worthy of expressing independently. The playful movement is influenced by the mobiles of Alexander Calder.” tectonihks

Abstract Art

Original Acrylic painting on canvas

“Everyone can shine. We have to learn it is okay to go through life at our own pace and do certain things when the time's right. We have to trust that everything will happen when the time is right. This painting is heavy textured, made with acrylic paints, using brushes and palette knife on canvas, created in my way and my own style. Bold, assured strokes created a bright patchwork that evokes scraps of color. A minimalist, geometric abstract style painting. This piece has a mature, modern and semi-neutral design aesthetic. The colors streak and overlap, while also being contrasted by intense color shifts, subtle lines and patterns. The accents of black against yellow, red, blue, orange and white are all subtle, modern and striking. Hints of black and white peek through from the surface and add texture to the overall painting. ” Stella Carena

“Something that I love about #hongkong is that you have history nestled in greenery right in the city limits. . The Nan lian garden is a Chinese Classical garden designed in the Tang Dynasty style with hills , water feature, trees, rocks and wooden structures. The garden was a joint project of the #chilinnunnery and #hongkonggovernment . . It was so well maintained and the fact that it was colorful was a bonus. Yellow is one of my favorite colors to add to a sketch, it did help that this was the actual color of the structure! . The whole composition was begging to be sketched. Perfect place to be in a winter afternoon!” Urmila Menon
